The Nutrition Month is celebrated every July and is celebrated in every schools. This year's Nutrition Month has a theme, "Kalamidad Paghandaan,Gutom at Malnutrition Agapan."
Earthquakes, tsunamis, strong typhoons such as Typhoon Perya, Typhoon Ondoy, Typhoon Yolanda, and the most recent Typhoon Glenda had already hit our country. These calamities destroyed many properties, stole many lives and natural resources. Many Pilipinos suffered during and after these calamities. They lost their beloved ones and experienced shortage of resources. These sufferings kind of hinder the progress of our country, and affect the health of people in a negative way. How? Due to scarcity, people will suffer hunger or starving and may lead to malnutrition or maybe even death. But we can prevent these terrible things through many ways. The very first and important thing we should do is to take care and conserve our natural resources. Don't be greedy or very abusive in using these resources like there's no tomorrow. Think of the future, if these resources will be overused now, will we have anything to have when calamities came? Just like in the story of the grasshopper and the ant. The grasshopper just played around when the sun was still bright, while the ant worked hard to earn foods to be ready if any calamities will come. But when it rained, the grasshopper didn't had anything to eat but the ant had stocks of food that he earned when the weather was still good. So, this story kind relates in our society.
This month's Nutrition theme helps us realize that we must prepare for the calamities that may come and prevent the most frightened thing that may happen to us, starving and malnutrition.
